New Library Planned
for Elizabeth!
The Elbert County
Library District is pleased to announce the acquisition of a new
building to house the Elizabeth Library. The building is located
at 651 W. Beverly Street in Elizabeth. The location is a former
moving and storage warehouse located between Safeway and Big R.
The library looks forward to being part of this business area.
The Elizabeth
Library, District offices and District meeting room will move from
their current location on Main Street once the renovation of the
new building is complete. The renovations are estimated to take
18 months to 2 years, depending on a successful fundraising campaign.
The recently-formed
Elbert County Libraries Foundation will launch a capital campaign
this fall to raise the estimated $1.4 million needed to transform
the 13,000 square-foot warehouse into a library facility.
The project
will be completed in phases. Phase one of the project will include
approximately 8,000 square feet of library space, which will leave
plenty of room for future expansion in this location.
Wember, Inc.
has been retained as a Project Manager and Owner's Representative
to assist the District in the process of renovating the building
into the new branch for the Elizabeth community. Dennis Humphries
of HPA has been hired as the architect.
The Elizabeth
Library has been on Main Street for twenty years. As the community
has grown and library services have expanded, the District has outgrown
the space. The District looks forward to continuing to serve the
community at its new location.
